Throughout the weeks of September 7-18 the Paralympics took place in Rio, Brazil. The Grade 2 class discussed various events which take place in the Paralympics and had the opportunity to watch some of the events on the Smart board such as wheelchair basketball. The Grade 2 students were impressed by the athlete’s abilities and skills they demonstrated during the game. The students then researched an event they were interested in and presented interesting facts to the class about what they had learned. For example, football 7 a side is played by players who have cerebral palsy and football 5 a side is played by players who have vision impairments and wear a blindfold. We learned many interesting facts and heard some great stories about some of the athletes. Everyone learned the true meaning of “I can do anything!”
