Meet Brooke Smithson. Grade 5 student at GAA and accomplished actor!
When she was younger, Brooke was fascinated with actors. She expressed an interest in trying out acting and her Mom found her an agent.
“I go to a lot of auditions”, explains Brooke, “it can be a little bit scary. You need to learn the script so quickly! But when you get there, you see that a lot of people feel the same way. They’re nervous too!”
Typically, an audition only lasts 5 minutes. “It’s hard to show your best in only 5 minutes, but you have to give it everything,” says Brooke.
Brooke saw immediate success and was cast in the TV series “Broke & Famous” on the Reelz Channel, where she plays a young Lindsay Lohan. “I really like the movies Lindsay made when she was younger like the Parent Trap and Freaky Friday”.
Brooke likes the challenge of acting. “When you play a character, you have to get into the character but can add little hints of yourself. Even though you are playing someone else, you can express yourself with any emotion. The hardest part of acting is connecting with your character. You have to get into your character and have to know your character so that you come across as real.”
Brooke practices her scripts at home with her Mom and Dad. She balances her homework and memorizing scripts by prioritizing. She gets her homework done and then spends the rest of the night memorizing her scripts when she has an audition. ” It’s a lot of work, but I love it.”
Brooke hopes to make acting her career in the future but also kind of likes the idea of running a business like her Dad. Be sure to see Brooke on stage as the “Baker’s Wife” our full school production of Into the Woods.
