Harriet Tubman

On Friday February 17th, the grade 4,5 &6 classes were treated to the performance ‘The Spirit of Harriet Tubman.’ The show, celebrating twenty years in production, is a one- woman show preformed and written by Leslie McCurdy. The play portrays the life of Harriet Tubman who ‘was an American slave, who not only rescued herself from slavery, but returned a number of times to…lead others to freedom in Canada.’ Students were captivated and astonished not only by the production itself but by the overall impact slavery had on those affected. The play made a wonderful connection for students who have been learning about History’s different perspectives and implications during Black History Month.
