It’s hard to pick just one thing that makes GAA different from other schools. Our motto is “Where We Can Make a Difference” and those are words that shape every aspect of our programme and are the foundation of our school pillars.
Our H2 Crew programme is in its second year and is ready to expand. It began as our Safe Schools Action team and blossomed into a way of thinking and a way to teach values to our students.
The programme is headed by 2 student leaders who are actively involved in encouraging students to live Hugh the Highlander’s values every day.
Students focus on 1 value for 2 months at a time, completing challenges, lessons and discussions as a class. They proudly add coloured beads to their values necklaces earning them one step closer to the coveted “White Bead” which our H2 crew leaders hand out once a week!
This year, our H2 crew leaders have been training a new crop of leaders and running a council where even more students can get involved. So far this year, the council has been involved in our Anti-Bullying Week, No Name Calling Week and were instrumental in helping our student population observe Pink Shirt Day at the end of February. Classes created a suit of armour to protect against mean words and to spread a message of kindness.
